January. February. March.  Also known as the Season of Sick. Prime time for those raw noses, endless mountains of used tissues, coughing that leaves you wondering if you will ever breath deeply again, chills, fevers, and the list goes on. Feel miserable yet? If you don't you will... or at least you could. But why would you if you can avoid it? WAIT..... What?! Avoid the endless woes and misery of nastiness spreading round and round through your family? You're gosh dang right! Well... how? Tell me more you say! Okay, okay, I will... just chill, not literally we don't need you sick before we start!

 

Over 10 years ago I learned a trick, a trick that has kept my family out of a doctors office, minus a few emergencies, since then. Now I will share it with you.

 

Let me clear a few things first before you start asking more questions – Yes, we still experience cold symptoms from time to time. No, they usually don't last more than 24 hours. No, this is not the only thing we do, but it plays a HUGE part.

 

Okay , on to the good stuff!

 

Garlic. Raw Garlic. Yes, you read that right. It is natures antibiotic, but it is also antiviral, a digestion aid, and has a special affinity for the lungs.

 

At the onset of symptoms ( the earlier you notice them the better!) open a clove of garlic, cut a few chunks off and swallow them like a pill with some water. Do this a few times a day, depending on how strong the symptoms are. When your family starts avoiding being around you, you'll know that you've had enough!

 

We also use garlic oil. This works great for the little ones who can't swallow chunks of garlic yet. Here are a few ways you can use the oil -

·         Orally- put a few drops in your mouth every few minutes.

·         Gland rub – put a couple drops on your fingers and rub up in front and behind your ears and follow the natural lines down your neck to your collar bone.

·         Ears – great for earaches, ear infections and just head colds. Lean head to a side, put a few drops in and massage ear, open and close jaw a few times to work the oil in. Put cotton in your ear and do the other side. When you treat ears, even if symptoms are only in one, you treat both! Great to do right before you go to bed.

I thought I would share with you how to make your own garlic oil, it only takes a few days and you are set for the whole season!

Strain Garlic chunks out, and voila! You have garlic oil ready to defend you from the season of sick!
