Did you go to the Derby? Here's what happened!
Over the sunny, hot weekend of June 2-4 was Colorado's Free Fishing and Camping Weekend. Our Rio Blanco Water Conservation District capitalizes on this opportunity to encourage adults and kids to get out there and play in the water with the annual Fishing Derby! All over the cliffs, up and down the river, below the dam, along the docks and on boats in the water there were fishing lines everywhere! Kids have an exclusive derby on Day 1 with three categories in three age groups. For a full list of winners click here.
But we definitely want to call out some of our local youth for their amazing catches!
In the 6th and under category we have Kylor Henson, longest fish, Hailie Armstrong, longest crappie, Samantha Guzmen with the longest trout, these guys did amazing with their catches!
In the 7-10 age category we have cash Leischer-Fromang with the longest fish, Corbin Nielson took first in longest crappie, Kolbee Files took second.
Lastly in the 11-15 age category it was all about the crappie! Nathan Sherman took 1st, Braxton Hall placed second and Adin Whiston captured 3rd.
These kids fish better than I do! We are so happy our youth get out and enjoy the outdoors here in Rangely, and especially at Kenney Reservoir.
Here are some more photos of the fun that was had!
