Yellow flowers everywhere!
I bet you've seen butterflies all over this yellow stuff that pops up in late summer to early fall.
As photographer Mary Meinen puts its, "It is a favorite food plant of many flies, bees, bugs and butterflies."
She adds that the flower can cause allergies,b ut these can be alleviated by drinking flower teas in January and Februrary.
This Rabbitbrush is used by domesticated bees to make a very mellow tasting honey. Orange firtillary butterlies and the darker hackberry, or ringlet butterflies (pictured below) also feed on this plant.
The caterpillers will feed on grasses and hackberries, and once butterflies can be found all around these bright yellow desert plants.
